Parish Nurse

Team members
The quality of our service reflects the commitment by our health care professional volunteers. From pediatric intensive care to elder care, from health education to industrial nursing, from surgical to psychiatric nursing, God is using us to nurture His Kingdom on earth.
We are in contact with health care agencies in the area, home care service providers, other parish nurses, visiting nurses and hospices. While they provide care for only the body and the mind, we provide the Spirit connection also.

Counseling
If you need help with a difficulty that has cropped up in your life and are in need of a counselor to help you through, please check out our counseling page which has information about a new counseling resource available through our church.

Medical
Eighty percent of adults who use the Internet have used it to access health information. Use the web for research, but use it wisely. Be skeptical. The information does not replace treatment by a physician, but can be used to help you consult with your physician. As you're reviewing the website, determine the agenda of the website and if the information is current. Make sure sources are cited and explore the source documents before you rely on the information. Remember, you can always discuss your finding with our parish nurses.

Educational Programs
Prevention through education – let us help you before you are sick. We offer a variety of educational programs that range from cancer to childhood obesity to exercise for heart health to healthy eating. Check the church calendar for upcoming programs as well as the Parish Nurse bulletin board or call Pastor Sherri at the church office.

More resources are available at the “Health Information Center” located in the hallway outside the church office. It is filled with great booklets on everything from stroke and heart attack signs and symptoms, to breast cancer information, to healthy living and eating, to exercise and many other topics.

If you can’t find the information you need in the information center or if you would like to request a special program, let us know.

One-on-one services
If you are in the hospital, in a nursing home or at home recuperating, expect to see Pastor Sherri Long, or one of the nurses. Remember, though, with the new privacy laws, hospitals cannot notify pastors of your stay unless the patient, upon admission, specifically states they want the pastor to be notified. So please give Pastor Sherri a call before you are admitted or have someone else call her.

The nurses are available for other personal visits, at the church, hospital or even your home. If you are confused about any aspect of health care or have some sort of problem, give the nurses a call at (260) 637-3798
