Prayer and Healing

PRAYER nourishes our life in Christ and, therefore, is a key part of worship at HUMC.

We praise God through prayer and give Him thanks.

We pray for others when they can’t pray for themselves.

And others pray for us when we cannot pray for ourselves.

Ways we pray here at HUMC:

Wednesday Morning Prayer Group
6:30-7:30 A.M. in Fellowship Hall come join us in prayer for the church, community, nation and world. Don’t worry about your ability to pray aloud. You can pray silently while others pray. We start with an informal conversation of concerns--loving concern, no gossip permitted. Then we take turns praying for our lives, concerns recorded in the Book of Common Prayer, the following Sunday services, the leadership of our church, our church’s future, our community, nation and the world. We pray as the Spirit of the living God leads us. No concern is too small…or too big…to bring to our Father in prayer.

Prayers for Students
A group regularly prays for our students, their spiritual leaders, their schools and this prayer ministry to teens. To be added to the e-mail prayer chain for students, contact the Student Ministry Director, Jon Hutchison

Prayer Partners
As you sit in worship every Sunday, two people are specifically praying for the service, the congregation, and the pastor. These Prayer Partners pray for the message as it is being delivered. They pray for people who are suffering and for those struggling with the issue the sermon is addressing. They pray, especially, for people to be open to the Lord in the service. If you want to become a Prayer Partner, periodically assigned to one service, let us know.

Prayer Room
Do you long for a quiet place to pray? Then come to our Prayer Room, across the foyer from the sanctuary next to the choir room. What is a prayer room? It is a room set aside for prayer, with a kneeling rail, table, and chairs.

To help direct your prayers, the prayer room has these resources:
  • Stations with suggestions for prayers for self, service, ministry, community, country, world, and missionaries
  • Book with the names of those confined to their homes
  • Book of preschoolers
  • Hymnals–Try singing or saying a hymn as a prayer.
  • Bibles–Try praying one of the Psalms
  • Boards to post prayer requests
